I really love Mad Men and the whole 50's/60's style. I love the femininity and admire the amount of work the women used to put in their hair and make-up. We can be so sloppy nowadays.
This time I wan't to show you how to do a Joan Holloway hairstyle. It's a bit of a combination between a beehive and a french twist. If you have thick hair, congratulations, this is a much much easier hairdo with thick straight hair because it's much easier to get that nice and smooth.
Ik ben dol op Mad Men en 50's/60's stijl die zo in is op het moment. Het is zo vrouwelijk, en ik bewonder de hoeveelheid zorg en moeite die de vrouwen besteedde aan hun kleding, make-up en haar. Daar zijn wij tegenwoordig veel te slordig in.
Vandaag wil ik jullie laten zien hoe je een Joan Holloway haarstijl namaakt. Het is een beetje een combinatie tussen een beehive en een french twist. Als je dik haar hebt; gefeliciteerd! Deze haarstijl is zo veel makkelijker met dik stijl haar, het is makkelijker om het glad en op zijn plek te krijgen dan dunner haar.
Start by teasing your hair at the roots. Especially when you have long hair it might take a while and you'll end up looking totally ridiculous. But don't worry it's supposed to look like that.
Second, separate your hair, 2 parts in the front for the finishing touches, and some stings in your neck for decorative curls.
Ik ben begonnen met mijn haar op te borstelen en in stukken te verdelen. 2 plukken aan de voorkant om een 'schuine pony' na te doen, als je haar al zo geknipt is hoeft dat natuurlijk niet. En een paar plukjes aan de achterkant voor de laatste krullen.
Na deze stap hoort het er uit te zien alsof je helemaal ontploft bent dus niet schrikken!
Take everything you did not separate and turn it in a big french twist. I realized I did not take pictures from this proces, stupid! So use this youtube video here, it's explained perfectly.
Neem de grootste pluk en draai deze in een french twist. Ik realiseerde me net dat ik daar geen foto's van heb gemaakt... stom stom stom. Bekijk dit youtube filmpje hier. Het word perfect uitgelegd.
After you done the big twist (this is the hardest part so hurray!) Use the little string you left out in the back. Curl them with a big curling iron and roll them completely and pint them in place at the root of the french twist. This step is not necessary but I just really like the look of the curls.
Daarna heb ik de kleine plukjes aan de achterkant gebruikt. Krul ze met een dikke krultang en rol de krullen vervolgens helemaal op en spelt ze vast. Deze stap is niet helemaal nodig maar ik hou altijd erg van het effect dat de opgerolde krullen geven.
Last step; the front. Take the part you left out for the finishing touches and curl this with a big curling iron too. Drape them across the sides of the twist, you can use this to pick up all unwanted hairs that got out.
Als laatste de voorkant. Krul ook deze met een grote krultang en drapeer ze langs de zijkanten van de twist. Alle plukjes en plusjes kun je meenemen en vastzetten met deze laatste 2 lokken.
Voila! Finished! Okay it takes some practice and it takes a lot of effort to keep all the hairs in place (especially if you have thin curly hair like me, but you have the advantage that it stays up all night ;). But it is deff worth it!
En klaar! Oke het vergt veel oefening, en zeker met dun haar is het een lastige om alle plukjes in het gareel te houden (zeker als je dun haar hebt zo als ik, maar aan de andere kant blijft het dan tenminste de hele avond zitten ;). Maar het eindresultaat is het helemaal waard.
